Regulus Moves Into Virgo - The Time of Kingly Rule is Over

Normally, I do not blog on astrological events that affect us many years from now.  But after much thought, and some pushing from my friends, I looked into the alignment of Regulus, Aldebaran, Fomalhaut, and Antares, specifically the current alignment of Regulus, and found some interesting transitions that have a direct affect on us currently and into 2012.  These calculations were done using the Sirius Astrology Program and calculated the information using the tropical system of astrology since events of this nature are usually tied to our earthly seasons.  I also used some information provided to me from my friends in the astrological world as well.  Thank you and blessings everyone for your input.

Regulus Moves into Virgo

After spending 2167 years (from 156 BC to 2011 AD) in the royal constellation of Leo (service to self/give to others but with strings, kingly rule), the great star of Regulus , moved into the constellation of Virgo (service to the people) on November 29, 2011, and will stay there for another two millenniums.  This transition completes the Grand Mutable Stellar Grand Cross and ushers in a new era in our spiritual evolution.

As one of the four royal stars, this configuration ushers in great change for humanity because the global consciousness transitions from a kingly, or aristocratic, age to an age of service and humility.  Power will shift from the rich and noble class to the common working people who will no longer be looked upon as ignorant slaves but will be treated with dignity and respect.

The History of Regulus, Fomalhaut, Aldebaran and Antares

Regulus, along with Fomalhaut, Aldebaran and Antares, were known as the four royal stars by the ancient Persians, because they appeared to be associated with the rise and fall of kings and leaders over people and states. When any of these stars was conjunct with the astrological Sun, Moon, Ascendant, or mid-heaven (MC) of individuals, the interpretation was that the individual would be catapulted into power and prominence or experience a downfall or demise. Regulus in particular was associated with kingship, especially during its stay in Leo (2000-156 BC), the sign of kings. The other three stars in the cross would serve as challenging or balancing forces to this influence.

Another special feature about Regulus was its proximity to the ecliptic (about half a degree), giving it strong resonance to the Sun and therefore power and regality. This is especially so when the Sun and Regulus are in conjunction as well as parallel during the late August or Leo-Virgo cusp period. This is when the powers that be (Leo) are highlighted or when the masses (Virgo) make their presence felt.

All four royal stars have since moved from the fixed to the mutable signs at different times during the last 700 years or so beginning with the Aldebaran-Antares half of the cross around 1300 AD. The move from Taurusm and its opposite Scorpio, into Gemini, and its opposite Sagittarius, may have been the driving force behind the birth of the Renaissance movement as well as the colonization movement in the Americas. The printing press (Gemini) and the spread of the scriptures (Sagittarius) were also possible outcomes of this transition. Alderbaran is currently at about 10° Gemini tropical and Antares at about 10° Sagittarius tropical.

Beginning in 1725, the other half of the cross began asserting itself as Fomalhaut moved from Aquarius to Pisces, ushering in Great Britain as a dominant sea power, steam power, the Victorian era, secret societies, and mystical religions. It may also be behind the more modern developments of oil, chemicals, film, photography, psychology, and collectivism, and will no doubt continue to spawn even further developments. Fomalhaut is currently at 4° of tropical Pisces.  Lagging behind the other three was Regulus, which moved from Leo to Virgo, on November 29th, 2011 AD.

Now, after years of waiting and watching, all four stars are in the same mode again, balancing each other out, and officially ushering in the mutable era, or epoch of humanity, where learning, communicating, and adapting will be central to our existence. Gemini, Sagittarius, and Pisces have given us the knowledge, ethics, and intuitive capacities of the mutable mode, but Virgo will put it all together into practical and tangible application. The importance and ethics of agriculture, labor, health, climate, and environment will begin to take hold in a big way.

The decentralization of power from kings (government leaders) to the common working people (society, nations, countries) is another important development of Regulus moving into Virgo. This is already taking shape in the "Occupy" movements worldwide. Monarchies and autocratic rule will cease to exist as power (Regulus) now flows to the people (Virgo). Other influences, such as Uranus (Aquarius = rebel, end of old paradigms, new thought) in Aries (power, blood, war, passion, moving forward), the discovery of Eris, the end of the Mayan calendar (December 21, 2012), the population explosion, the Internet, etc., are also adding to the momentum.

A Star Called Alcyone

Another star worthy of mention is Alcyone (central star of the Pleaides), which moved from Taurus (moves slow to change, secretive, secret societies, old monetary system) to Gemini (intellectual, quick wit, emotional spirituality, friends to the world) in 2000 AD. If Alcyone is the star our Sun orbits (others say Sirius) then this is a major event. This means that our solar system as a whole is moving from materialistic Taurus to intellectual Gemini.

As we prepare to move into a new year of promise and challenge, we are constantly reminded that nothing is ever forever.  The best we can do is to remain in the moment, heed the warnings, and adapt to our environment.  Our existence depends on our ability to change with the times.  We do this by letting go any perceived notions and judgments of what should be and accept what truly is.  The kingly reign of the elite is over.  It's our time now.  Heed the Call and take hold of your true purpose... to assist in bringing about our spiritual evolution.

Enlil is the malicious one that created what is now religion to control us, Enki is the one assisting mankind in his evolution, and Enlil, King Anu, and the royal hierarchy of Nibiru, may be behind what Dr. Pruett is speaking about. Enki, the Master Genesis Scientist who created our physical body, and was responsible in re-creating Earth, previously called Tiamat, is the individual who is behind assisting us in evolving by giving us what some call “the knowledge of the Gods.” Enki began this process through what he called “The Order of the Brotherhood of the Snakes.” This order is the original mystery school prior to Enlil infiltrating and corrupting the order, which now the results of this corruption are seen in groups within the various secret societies, i.e., Rosicrucians, Freemasons, etc.

Upcoming Mercury Retrograde Effects for Most Zodiac Signs

In evaluating Mercury retrogrades, I use sidereal astrological calculations, as well as Starry Night Pro 6, to determine real-time (current) energies involved. Mercury goes retrograde November 24, 2011, in the constellation of Ophiuchus/Scorpio.

Mercury rules thinking and perception, processing and disseminating information and all means of communication, commerce, education and transportation. By extension, Mercury rules people who work in these areas, especially those who work with their minds or their wits: writers and orators, consultants, commentators and critics, gossips and spin doctors, salespeople, teachers, travelers, tricksters and thieves. Mercury also has an occult side, so healing, astrology and the transmission of spiritual knowledge are also in his area.

Mercury retrograde gives rise to personal misunderstandings; flawed, disrupted, or delayed communications, negotiations and trade; glitches and breakdowns with phones, computers, cars, buses, and trains. And all of these problems usually arise because some crucial piece of information, or component, has gone astray or awry. Public transit, i.e. air, bus, etc., law enforcement activity, and social unrest may be affected and/or increase during a Mercury retrograde.

It is not exactly wise to make important decisions while Mercury is retrograde, since it is likely that such decisions will be clouded by misinformation, poor communication and careless thinking. Mercury is all about mental clarity and the power of the mind, so when Mercury is retrograde these intellectual characteristics tend to be less acute than usual, as the critical faculties are dimmed. Make sure you pay attention to the small print!

During this Mercury Retrograde, we have an interesting configuration, specifically, the Sun in Scorpio, Venus in Ophiuchus, and Mercury and Venus conjunct to each other in Ophiuchus. The energy during this period will also be about healing relationships, which could mean relationships ending, and the hard truth of old paradigms being exposed for the world to see, which can also be seen as healing our relationship with our world. We can accomplish this task by first going within us (meditate) and establish an open communication line with ourselves. Here are some traits on Ophiuchus.

The Good: The Ophiuchus loves to seek change in their life. They hate the mundane routine in their everyday life. They tend to get very impulsive and will follow their guts, even if they tend to get it wrong most of the time. These people are happy people who love to have fun. These people are considered the “healers” of the zodiac so they may be involved in healing arts.

The Bad: These people have a jealous streak in them. As they tend to get bored with the daily routine, it comes as a no surprise that they find it very hard to have a monogamous relationship. These people think with their heart and therefore tend to get judgmental too soon. They are restless beings as they are forever seeking new wisdom and tend to get a bit irresponsible. They are masters of procrastination and can have violent temper tantrums, that fortunately are short lived.

Major Zodiac Signs Affected by the Upcoming Mercury Retrograde

Sun (Leo) in Scorpio

Leo is a highly energetic, masculine fire sign. Leos can be none other than kings, leading all types of enterprises with their strong personalities. They need to be independent in their work, not submissive to others. They have a sense of entitlement and expect to be served. During this retrograde the lazy side of Leo will come forth with many gestures indicating a sense of entitlement. Leo will become very frustrated due to Leo not being able to express what he/she is feeling in a way that is constructive and understood by all. Leo will also tend to misinterpret sex for love and may go on wild “love” tantrums during this retrograde. Cool your fire, take a breath, and think things through Leo before acting on what you consider “primal instinct” during this retrograde.

Venus (Taurus and Libra) in Ophiuchus

The symbol for Libra, a scale, indicates Libra's strong need for balance. Libra is very oriented toward other people and skillfully tuned into their needs and emotions. Their preference in relationships is for harmony and love-they are peacemakers. Because they have the ability to see both sides of things, it can be difficult for them to make decisions. Law enforcement, judges, and other work involving government service suits Libra well. While in Ophiuchus, Libra may want to heal many forms of relationships between people, organizations, etc., in the attempt to achieve balance and harmony but will become frustrated due to the retrograde effects. Those in law enforcement and courts of law may find themselves with major communication issues with individuals as well as the inability to determine a good balance between work and home life. Patience, planning, clear communication and waiting for the most opportune time to be of service to others will go a long way in your venture to attain balance and harmony during this retrograde.

Taurus people are very much in tune with the Earth. Due to the influence of Venus, they have a great love for beauty found in things such as art, jewelry, and the natural landscape. They are loyal, patient, and deliberate in working toward their goals, just as farmers must be in tending their crops from planting through harvest. Grounded in reality and the physical world, they excel at professions such as artist, farmer, the financial sector, and politics. In Ophiuchus, Taurus attempts to make sense and heal the current state of affairs with the nation, individuals, and the self, regarding the home, money and politics, will only be exacerbated during this retrograde. Taurus may lose patience on projects because the beauty of the project may become lost, which may lead to a lack of loyalty to the project as well as to those involved. Be patient, ground yourself, go within, and find the beauty in what you set out to do again Taurus. Everything that has a beginning will have an end. Once this retrograde ends, a new beginning will be available to you.

Mercury (Gemini and Virgo) and Venus (Taurus and Libra) Conjunct in Ophiuchus

The opportunity for forgiving and loving yourself to heal the deepest hurts in your life, and past lives, is being presented to you this retrograde, especially for Gemini, Virgo, Taurus, and Libra people. There may be a tendency for you to be the “healer,” which reflects one of Ophiuchus’ traits, when loved ones are in need. There will also be a strong need to “heal” relationships regarding abundance, i.e. money, wealth, etc. Money issues that individuals, as well as governments, will begin to come forth so they can be evaluated and healed from a global perspective as well. The issue with the nation’s budget and the current problems with our banking organizations is just one example of this conjunction in Ophiuchus (Audit of the Federal Reserve Reveals $16 Trillion in Secret Bailouts). Before venturing forward on an endeavor, i.e. helping friends in need, Occupy Wall Street, etc., go within yourselves and truly see if you are healed first. Then look upon your loved ones in need and see if providing help will empower them to continue a “victim” attitude or if helping will truly help them to help themselves. The key here is to first go within yourselves and self evaluate before acting on your impulses during this retrograde.

With the November/December 2011 Mercury Retrograde, the major issue of goals, plans and directions are up for revision. We are on the threshold of major change and transition regarding our direction, location and purpose. The road that we have been on for this year of 2011 now requires that we make choices and decisions. The road has ended and we must choose to go right or left, we can no longer continue the way we have. This Mercury Retrograde is setting the stage for the shift out of 2011 and movement into 2012, a universal FIVE year (in numerology terms) which represents CHANGE, BREAKTHROUGH AND FREEDOM. You will need to be ready to break free from the past and move into new directions, shifting your goals, location and purpose. This Mercury Retrograde is also host to a Solar and Lunar Eclipse, signaling that the changes we make are setting a new pace for the NEW YEAR of 2012. Honor others as you would honor yourself, go within, and find that spark of love that has always resided there and share unconditionally with others what you have learned. The Terra Papers and Discourse

There's been much talk since Man first came to being on this Earth, and became conscious of Himself, about his origins.  Many religions came to being in an attempt to explain Man's origins and how to carry Himself in an effort to please His creator and in hopes of returning home.  Secret societies with their initiations and practices have also attempted to answer the questions asked by Man.  Science has also attempted to address this issue through Darwinism and, more recently, through the research and Sumerian translations of Zecharia Sitchin, ancient aliens coming to Earth and, bringing the spark of life, created Man for the purpose of creating a labor force to assist these aliens called the Annunaki. 

Now, with a document written by a Native American named Robert "Morning Sky," we are presented with information passed on to Robert's grandfather and six others by "Star Elder" validating Mr. Sitchin's translations as well as filling in the gaps where there are no Sumerian translations.  This paper, which Robert wrote in 1996, was criticized immensely by the academic world, as well as major UFO organizations, for being too "out there."  Yet, after reading the document, there is a feeling of "maybe."  You be the judge.  This document, and its discourse written by Linda S. Santucci, presents a good argument of what Mr. Sitchin has said for many years prior to his passing... that Man was created by ancient aliens for the purpose of being a labor force to assist them.  But as you read the document, you will notice that the creator of Man, EN-KI, had much more hopes for Man and His abilities to grow in Spirit.  The name of this highly controversial document, along with the discourse (follow the links below), is "The Terra Papers."  Again, you be the judge.  An open mind and heart will always lead you to the path of Truth.  Blessings.

Comet Elenin and August 8-9, 2011 X-Class Solar Flare: Is There a Connection?

On August 8, 2011, at 12:48 AM Pacific time, the first X-class flare measuring X6.9 set off from sunspot region 1263. This region was just rotating around the western limb of the Sun and will only present a glancing blow to Earth. (see images below).  Keep in mind that the images are reversed so the western limb is located on the right side of the image. If we were looking at the Sun at the time of the flare it would be on the left side of the Sun.

Region 1263 has become unstable and has increased in power. Just six hours prior to the X6.9 it produced an M2.5 which now adds to five M-class flares and today's X6.9 during its rotation on the Earthside of the Sun.

Solar activity has been steadily increasing for the past few months.  Only recently has this activity been very noticible.  More to the point, this activity has been occurring more on the western limb of the Sun... why?  Here's a possible answer... Comet Elenin.

In the past, we've all seen realtime images from the Solar and Helospheric Observatory (SOHO) with comets flying by the Sun with the associated solar flare erupting on the side of the comet flyby due to gravitational and magnetic entanglement.  But the comets are usually close to the Sun before the flare erupts.  In the case of our August 8 X-class solar flare, there is not comet close by to cause the flare, unless the object is so large that the effect is felt before it can be seen. 

Could Comet Elenin be larger then we are being led to believe?  The jury is still out on this subject but the image below, created in Starry Night Pro, shows Elenin on the same side of the solar flare at exactly 12:48 AM Pacific on August 8, 2011.  Again, the images above have not been corrected as an individual would see it from Earth.  The image below is corrected and would be as if an individual would see it on Earth. 



With these images provided, and with the unusual increase in odd weather phenomena and high seismic activity worldwide, it may be difficult for the nay sayers to deny the obvious.  Only time will tell.  Discernment and intuition are valuable tools during these times of dramatic change.  Stay alert and remain aware.

Mercury Retrograde - The Two-Week Shadow Effect

Addendum to "Mercury Retrograde and Comet Elenin Transit - August 2-26, 2011" blog.

As a refresher to my previous blog entry, "Mercury rules thinking and perception, processing and disseminating information and all means of communication, commerce, education and transportation..."

During a Mercury Retrograde, the energy surrounding this period, "... gives rise to personal misunderstandings; flawed, disrupted, or delayed communications, negotiations and trade; glitches and breakdowns with phones, computers, cars, buses, and trains. And all of these problems usually arise because some crucial piece of information, or component, has gone astray or awry. Public transit, i.e. air, bus, etc., law enforcement activity, and social unrest may be affected and/or increase during a Mercury retrograde."  But what is rarely spoken about among astrologers online, due to some disagreements on the idea, is what I'm calling "The Two-Week Shadow Effect" prior to Mercury going retrograde and prior to Mercury going direct.

Two weeks prior to a Mercury Retrograde, Mercury's orbit appears to us on Earth to start slowing down.  During this "slow down" period, the affects of Mercury Retrograde begin to appear slowly.  People's thoughts begin to get a bit foggy.  The planning process for big projects become difficult to implement, which in turn, creates frustration for those involved.  This frustration begins to fester, with blame being dished out like it's a "blue plate special" night, until an explosion of anger erupts.  Sometimes, if this eruption of anger occurs during a large social event, then it's possible that some people at the event may get hurt.  Evidence of this situation occurring can be seen during the recent July 28, 2011, Los Angeles Rave Party Riot on Hollywood Boulevard.

During Mercury Retrograde, with Comet Elenin in the area, civil unrest situations can escalate to a national level.  We see this with the current London Riots.

Two weeks prior to Mercury going direct, the affects of retrograde will begin to diminish but there may be a tendency for the retrograde energy to boucne back with focused intent to get us to look within and re-evaluate ourselves.

Comet Elenin is a very big contributer to this current retrograde energy by being in the constellation of Leo at the time Mercury went retrograde, which also occurred in Leo.

Note: Sidereal calculations were used because a real-time reading of the stars was preferred.

While Mercury is in retrograde, and during the "Two-Week Shadow Effect" period, when Mercury again appears to slow down prior to going direct, be aware of your emotions and state of mind.  Comet Elenin will make it more difficult to look within and self-evaluate.  Awareness is the key to patience and compassion.  Time shall always be the witness of our actions.  Let's make this "Time" count.

Current Mercury Retrograde Effects for All People during Comet Elenin Transit

During this Mercury retrograde, and due to Comet Elenin currently transiting through our vicinity, I used sidereal astrological calculations, as well as Starry Night Pro 6, to determine real-time (current) energies involved during this Mercury Retrograde. The effect that Elenin may have during this retrograde is an increase in severity and intensity of personal and public issues. Elenin will also be conjunct Mercury in Leo so this may add even more to what will already be occurring. Mercury goes retrograde August 2, 2011, in the constellation of Leo.

The conjunction of Mercury to the Sun, which is the heart of the retrograde, will also include Venus. The days leading up to and just after this date are good for the deepest contemplation of your attachments. A time to look at attachments of the heart vs. attachments of the mind. Do you think you love this person or do you really love them? What is love anyway?

With Elenin conjunct Mercury, while Mercury is retrograde, communications, travel, computers, and all forms of electronic communications will be affected dramatically due to the added pressure from Elenin.

Additional Retrograde Effects to Aquarian, Leo, and Gemini People Only during Comet Elenin Transit

Aquarius

Aquarians may be affected intellectually as well as emotionally. Aquarian plans in process will be more difficult to complete due to the strain to think clearly, which leads to emotional frustration. Communication with networking groups, non-profit organizations, and other groups may be very frustrating due to the increased pressure to look within, re-evaluate, and to consider other people’s needs as opposed to the needs of the group only.

During this retrograde, it will be good advice for Aquarians to mind their diet since their circulatory system has a tendency to be affected more than other signs in the zodiac. All things that usually flow for Aquarians will be slowed and/or restricted for re-evaluation. Intuition, awareness, and patience are the main focus for Aquarians.

Leo

Leos may be affected in their ability to be creative and their love for being social center pieces. Leos may also not be able to feel appreciated no matter what is offered to them. Irritability, anger, frustration, and episodes of lashing out at loved ones may be the normal day-to-day events occurring for Leo during this retrograde. Be aware of high stress because this may have a very dire affect on your heart. Leos have a tendency to experience more stress in the heart than other signs in the zodiac.

Gemini

Gemini people should consider their local and distant traveling very carefully during this time since air travel may also be affected more dramatically then in previous Mercury retrogrades due to Elenin being present. Gemini people may appear very ungrounded, flighty, and extremely flirty to the point of being obnoxious. Their need for travel to local and foreign places will feel stifled due to life forcing you to be introspective to see what personal work needs to be done for your personal and spiritual growth. The effect of Elenin transiting through our area at a high rate of speed gives Gemini people the feeling of being a rock that’s been thrown and skipped on the surface of a lake.

Lungs are susceptible to stress for Gemini. Allergies may have an undesired affect, which could cause Gemini to feel choked. In general, a feeling of drowning, choked, restricted, increased chest pressure, and/or any other feeling of restriction during respiration may be prevalent during this retrograde. Slow things down, breath deeply and slowly, and be patient because this retrograde, as with all retrogrades, will be short lived.

Since Elenin is unpredictable and mysterious to us, these traits may transfer over to the affected parties as well. Remaining aware and present will help develop patience and understanding. For all of us, breath, remain present, and accept things as they come without judgment will help during this time of high-speed change.

Reiki: A History of Healing

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.

Its use is not dependent on one's intellectual capacity or spiritual development and therefore is available to everyone. It has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds.

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.

While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.

Reiki Ideals

During a meditation several years after developing Reiki, Dr. Usui decided to add the Reiki Ideals to the practice of Reiki. The Ideals came in part from the five principles of the Meiji emperor of Japan whom Dr. Usui admired. The Ideals were developed to add spiritual balance to Usui Reiki. Their purpose is to help people realize that healing the spirit by consciously deciding to improve oneself is a necessary part of the Reiki healing experience. In order for the Reiki healing energies to have lasting results, the client must accept responsibility for her or his healing and take an active part in it. Therefore, the Usui system of Reiki is more than the use of the Reiki energy. It must also include an active commitment to improve oneself in order for it to be a complete system. The ideals are both guidelines for living a gracious life and virtues worthy of practice for their inherent value.

Reiki In Japan

The Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai

Dr. Usui discovered Reiki during a mystical experience on Mt. Kurama, a sacred mountain north of Kyoto, Japan in March, 1922. A few months later he started a Reiki organization called the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai which means “Usui Reiki Healing Society.” He also opened a Reiki clinic in Harajuku, Aoyama, Tokyo. There he taught classes and gave Reiki treatments. After the Great Kanto earthquake in 1923 the demand for Reiki was great and it was at this time that Usui began training other teachers.

Usui was the first president of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. After he died, he was followed by a succession of presidents: Mr. Ushida, Mr. Iichi Taketome, Mr. Yoshiharu Watanabe, Mr. Toyoichi Wanami, Ms. Kimiko Koyama and the current successor to Dr. Usui as of 1998 is Mr. Kondo. Contrary to what has been said by some in the west, there is no "lineage bearer" or "Grandmaster" in the system of healing started by Dr. Usui, only the succession of presidents listed above. While Dr. Hayashi was a respected Reiki master and made valuable contributions to the development of Reiki, he was never the president of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai.

Reiki is a generic word in Japan, and is used to describe many types of healing and spiritual work. It is not exclusive to the system of healing based on Dr. Usui's method. The system of healing that evolved from Dr. Usui's method is called the Usui System of Natural Healing or Usui Reiki Ryoho.

Reiki Origins

There has been a lot of speculation about where Reiki came from, but there has been little confirmation of most of these ideas. Some say that Reiki originated from Buddhism or that it contains Buddhist concepts or techniques. I spoke with a Japanese Reiki master who is also a Buddhist and has done historical research into Reiki in Japan. He said that he could see no connection between Reiki and Buddhism and that he felt that Reiki is religiously neutral. While Dr. Usui may have been a Buddhist, he had also studied Christianity and had lived with a Christian family for a time. It is clear he had a very broad background in many religious teachings and philosophies

The clearest and most authentic understanding we have been able to discover is that Dr. Usui originated the system of healing he taught and practiced based first on his mystical experience on Mt. Kurama and then later by making use of his studies in many different areas of knowledge. Usui Reiki has no connection to Buddhism, nor is it connected to Tibetan Buddhism or Tibetan shamanism or any other religion. One of the stories says Dr. Usui discovered the Reiki symbols in a Tibetan sutra, but even though people have carefully looked, no one has been able to find a Tibetan sutra with Reiki symbols in it. This is further validated by Dr. Usui’s own writing in which he says, "Our Reiki Ryoho is something absolutely original and cannot be compared with any other (spiritual) path in the world." During his mystical experience on Mt. Kurama, Dr. Usui received the ability to do Reiki treatments. Later he added the Reiki Ideals, the three Reiki II symbols, hand positions and the attunement process. Following Dr. Usui's request to develop the system of Reiki, Dr. Hayashi created a complex hand position system based on his experience as a medical doctor and from his experience working in his Reiki clinic. He also further developed the attunement process and may have been the one to add the master symbol, although it is possible that the master symbol was added by Mrs. Hawayo Takata. (Note that Dr. Usui and his organization the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai did not use a master symbol)

Reiki in the West

Usui Sensei asked Hayashi Sensei to develop Reiki which he did and Mrs. Takata, who brought it to the west, also changed the way it was practiced. Because of this, the system that has been taught in the west, which has in turn spread all over the world, is considerably different than the Reiki methods of both Hayashi Sensei and Usui Sensei.

Hawayo Takata

Mrs. Takata developed what she called the foundation treatment which is a simplified version of what she learned from Dr. Hayashi. The foundation treatment consists of 4 hand positions on the abdomen area and 3 or 4 hand positions for the head and a few optional hand positions on the back. In addition, she eliminated what we in the west have come to call the Japanese Reiki techniques, which include byosen scanning, kenyoku and gyoshi ho to name a few.

Takata said Reiki is an oral tradition and because of this didn’t allow her students to take notes or to tape record and she had no written handouts; neither did she write anything about how Reiki is to be taught. (We now know she did teach one class in June, 1975 in which she did give handouts and did allow her students to take notes.) Because of this it became difficult to verify exactly how Reiki is to be practiced. This became especially problematic after she passed on.

Mrs. Takata also added a fee structure. So while the lineage is the same, going back to Dr. Usui, and the 3 symbols from Reiki II are the same as Dr. Usui taught, in many ways, the system of Reiki she taught was different than what Dr. Usui had originally created.

The important thing is that her system is effective with the addition of the foundation treatment being her most important contribution to Reiki. Between 1970 and her transition on December 11, 1980, Mrs. Takata initiated twenty-two Reiki Masters.

The required waiting periods between classes were added by several of Mrs. Takata's Masters after she passed on. Actually according to Mrs. Yamaguchi who became a Reiki teacher under Dr. Hayashi, Dr. Hayashi taught that Reiki treatments should be given for free. This is why he taught mostly to wealthy students who could afford to practice without charging money. So, while some say payment must be received, we know that this is not a requirement and that it is really up to the practitioner to decide if they want to charge a fee or not for Reiki treatments.

After Mrs. Takata's transition, a few teachers began making changes in the way they taught Reiki. Most of the changes were beneficial, and included the addition of knowledge and healing skills the teachers had learned from other systems or had acquired from inner guidance. However, some changes were restrictive, making it more difficult for students to progress. Some took the Third Degree and divided it into several small parts, calling each new part a new Degree and charging additional money.

Often, the fact that they had modified the Takata system was not mentioned and when their students became teachers, they began teaching what they thought was pure Takata style Reiki and even calling it pure Usui Reiki when in fact it was not. In this way, many varieties of Reiki have developed with some thinking they have the only authentic version of Reiki when actually what they are teaching is a modified form. Much of the information on the web about the history of Usui Reiki and how it is taught and practiced has not been well researched and people are simply publishing anything they have heard without attempting to find the source or check references.

In the time since Mrs. Takata experienced transition, Reiki has spread rapidly in the West. It is now practiced throughout North and South America, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, India and other parts of the world. There are now an estimated 1,000,000 Reiki Masters with as many as 4,000,000 people having been initiated into Reiki throughout the world.

Natural (Full-Spectrum) Light: Eco-friendly, Energy Efficient, and People Friendly

Natural (Full-Spectrum) light is light that covers the electromagnetic spectrum from infrared through near-ultraviolet, or all wavelengths that are useful to plant or animal life; in particular, sunlight is considered full spectrum, even though the solar spectral distribution reaching Earth changes with time of day, latitude, and atmospheric conditions.

Whereas natural light is crucial to all life on earth, cool-white fluorescent lighting, also known simply as fluorescent lighting, can have detrimental effects on our health, suggests Magda Havas, a professor in environmental studies at Trent University. Frequent exposure can lead to elevated stress levels and other kinds of emotional instability. Fluorescent lighting affects mental health in part because, unlike natural lighting, it emits almost no radiation in the ultraviolet range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Exposure to blue and ultraviolet light helps the brains stabilize mood. Fluorescent lighting also emits microwaves, which, according to Havas, can have adverse health effects.

Natural Lighting

Natural light comes from the sun or the moon. About half of the sun's solar radiation lies in the visible range of the electromagnetic spectrum and the other half lies in the near-infrared and ultraviolet parts of the spectrum. Moonlight is obviously sunlight that strikes the moon and subsequently reaches earth.

Fluorescent Lighting

Fluorescent lighting emits light that is imbalanced in the electromagnetic spectrum. Virtually none of the radiation from fluorescent lighting lies in the ultraviolet range of the spectrum, and some lies in the microwave range between the very low-frequency long-wavelength radio waves and the infrared waves. Full-spectrum fluorescent lighting emulates sources of daylight with emissions in all parts of the visual spectrum and some in the infrared and ultraviolet ranges.

Health Effects of Natural vs. Fluorescent Lighting

Unabsorbed ultraviolet radiation can cause tissue damage, eye damage and promote skin cancer. But ultraviolet radiation also appear to have beneficial effects on well-being.  Dr. John Ott, director of the Environmental Health and Light Institute in Sarasota, Florida, and a pioneer in analyzing the effects of artificial light on health, reports that mice continually exposed to the full light spectrum have longer life spans than mice that grow up under fluorescent lighting with little radiation in the ultraviolet range of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Natural Light Investigations

Investigations into natural and artificial light have shown that light definitely affects the pituitary gland, as well as other areas in the midbrain and hypothalamic regions. In the early 1920's, William Rowan demonstrated that the varying seasonal lengths of the daylight was responsible for the migration of birds. In other studies conducted by Bochenek, Marburg and Gudden, it was shown that light may occasion reaction on the entire endocrine system of an animal via nerve impulses originating in the retina and reaching other areas of the brain by way of accessory optic pathways. Thus, artificial light, not being of the same quality as natural light, can play havoc with the endocrine system via the nerves.

A study was conducted involving some elderly men at a nursing home who spent most of their time indoors under the influence of unnatural lighting. They found that these men suffered a severely diminished ability to absorb calcium; yet when the lights were replaced with special bulbs designed to simulate sunlight, their calcium absorption was increased by 15% within a month. Even more disturbing research conducted by scientists has indicated that fluorescent lighting can cause genetic mutations, cancer and death in the cells of many life forms, including humans.

Aside from the facts concerning the direct negative effects of unnatural lighting; we must also consider their more indirect effect on our body rhythms. Their presence, by turning night into day, tend to imbalance the circadian rhythms—the regular cycles of rising and falling body temperature, variations in body chemicals, etc., that naturally occur approximately once every 24 hours. The result may be what three West German photobiologists have called "light stress."

Research on the Psychological Effects of Artificial Lighting

Researchers have studied the question of how lighting conditions affect mental stability for decades. In the 1940s, Luckiesh and Moss studied how fifth- and sixth-graders in well-lit and poorly lit classrooms performed on the New Stanford Achievement Test. Those in well-lit classrooms scored significantly higher than those in poorly lit classrooms. Since then, numerous researchers have studied the effects of fluorescent lighting. In a 2002 Guardian News article, Michaele Wynn-Jones investigated fluorescent lighting in prisons. Wynn-Jones concluded that fluorescent lighting is a likely cause of the headaches, depression and sleep disorders prisoners frequently experience.

Symptoms and Risks

According to researchers at the H.E.S.E project, the most common symptoms of having been exposed to too much fluorescent lighting and too little natural lighting are headaches, mood swings, irritability, insomnia and inappropriate behavior. Ott further notes that continuous exposure to fluorescent lighting can lead to a depletion of the brain chemical serotonin. Known as a mood stabilizer, serotonin helps to keep mood disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder and depression at bay. Depleting the natural resources of serotonin in the brain can thus have serious and lasting consequences for emotional stability.

Natural Light in Treating Seasonal Affective Disorder

In recent years, full-spectrum lighting has been used in the treatment of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) through the use of "light boxes" that mimic natural sunlight, which may not be available in some areas during the winter months.

Lightbox therapy, otherwise known as phototherapy, is a recognized modality for depression (such as SAD). It is also the primary treatment for circadian rhythm sleep disorders.

Prevention

The best way to prevent the detrimental effects of fluorescent lighting is to increase your exposure to natural lighting. According to Ott, full-spectrum fluorescent lighting has fewer detrimental health effects than cool-white fluorescent lighting. Full-spectrum fluorescent lighting emits some radiation waves in the ultraviolet range of the electromagnetic spectrum. But even full-spectrum fluorescent lighting emits some microwave radiation.

Global Environmental Benefits

The use of natural light bulb and/or tubes has been shown in independent studies to reduce the use of energy consumption, which will realize over 300 million dollars in energy savings according to government calculations. Reduced energy consumption also means reduced greenhouse gas emissions helping our environment from a global perspective. The use of natural light will help in reducing over 3 billion pounds of CO2 emissions from being pumped into the atmosphere by electric plants. That's the air pollution reduction equivalent of taking over 314 thousand cars off the road. Simply changing from standard incandescent lighting to a natural lighting saves energy and helps to reduce carbon dioxide emissions--a major component of the gases most experts believe is responsible for global warming.

Green for the Environment and People Friendly As Well

One example of a natural light bulb/tube is the OttLite, created by Dr. Ott. The output of a 32 watt OttLite tube is roughly equivalent to that of a 150 watt incandescent bulb. So, they use about ¼ the amount of energy for the same amount of light. However, it's not just about energy-savings, it's also about the quality of the light.

The use of natural light, like the OttLite, can reduce the ailments stated above, which translates to a happier work environment, increased productivity, increased focus, and reduced time-off from work. The use of natural light bulbs/tubes also has other benefits from a personal health standpoint.

Sidereal/Tropical Astrology, Ophiuchus, and Your True Sign

Do you think you're a Leo because you were born on July 24th? You may want to rethink your answer after reading this article.

Had there been a total solar eclipse at the moment of your birth, and had it been dark enough to let the stars come out, people looking at the eclipse would have seen it in the constellation Cancer. In fact, most people aren't the "sign" they think they are, but instead were born under the previous "sign."

This “error” in astrological calculation is due to an astronomical phenomenon called "precession of the equinoxes," a phenomenon discovered in 130 BC by Greek astronomer Hipparchus and known to Claudius Ptolemy, another astronomer, who was a Roman Citizen living in Egypt. This “error” is evident when comparing birth chart calculations between the sidereal system and the tropical system of astrology.

Sidereal and tropical are the terms for two systems of ecliptic coordinates used in astrology. Both divide the ecliptic into a number of "signs" named after constellations, but while the sidereal system defines the signs based on the fixed stars, the tropical system defines it based on the position of vernal equinox (i.e. the intersection of the ecliptic with the celestial equator Because of the precession of the equinoxes, the two systems do not remain fixed relative to each other but drift apart approximately one degree every 70 to 72 years.

A tropical system was introduced by Ptolemy in the 2nd century and remains prevalent in western astrology. A sidereal system is used in Hindu astrology, and in some 20th-century systems of western astrology.

While classical tropical astrology is based on the orientation of the Earth relative to the Sun and planets of the solar system (seasons), sidereal astrology deals with the position of the Earth relative to both of these as well as the stars of the celestial sphere. The actual positions of certain fixed stars, as well as their constellations, is an additional consideration in the horoscope. (Over very long astronomical time scales, these fixed stars are of course themselves far from stationary.)

Sidereal/Tropical Beginnings

A few centuries before the Common Era, some Greek astrologers decided to fix the zodiac on the equinox points rather than on the stars. This is the beginning of the Tropical Zodiac. In his astrological pursuits during the mid-First Century, Ptolemy noticed that the spring equinox occurred at 0*0'0" sidereal Aries. Ptolemy's translators misunderstood him, making the Tropical Zodiac the preferred zodiac in the west. The equinoxes had other plans, though, and the discrepancy between "signs," and the constellations they took their names from, is approximately 24 to 25 degrees -- almost a full "sign"!In the 1940's, an astrologer named Cyril Fagan was working with charts called Solar Returns. Solar returns are charts which are cast for the moment when the Sun returns to the place where it was when a person was born, in order to determine what issues they'll be facing until their next birthday. Every astrologer knew these charts were terribly inaccurate. While trying to solve the Solar Return problem, an exasperated Fagan eventually took a cue from Vedic Astrology (aka jyotish) and tried correcting for precession. Suddenly, Solar Returns were accurate. The Sidereal Zodiac was back. Amazingly, Fagan spent about twenty-five years doing creative work in tropical or traditional Western astrology before turning his attention to the tenets of siderealism. His book, Primer of Sidereal Astrology, is a core resource in that specialized field."

Ophiuchus Emerges

In 1995, Walter Berg, a British astrologer, introduced his 13-sign zodiac, which has the additional sign of Ophiuchus. Berg's system has been well-received in Japan after his book was translated by radio host Mizui Kumi in 1996.

A small number of sidereal astrologers wish to include other constellations, such as Ophiuchus, in their zodiac and use 13 signs instead of 12. This results in a system completely unrelated to the zodiac as described by Ptolemy. While Ptolemy noted that Ophiuchus is in contact with the ecliptic, he was aware that the twelve signs were just conventional names for 30 degrees segments (especially since the Aries sign had ceased to be in contact with the Aries constellation already in his time).

For the purpose of determining the constellations in contact with the ecliptic, the constellation boundaries as defined by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1930 are used. For example, the Sun enters the IAU boundary of Aries on April 19 at the lower right corner, a position that is still rather closer to the "body" of Pisces than of Aries. Needless to say, the IAU defined the constellation boundaries without consideration of astrological purposes.

The dates the Sun passes through the 13 astronomical constellations of the ecliptic are listed below, accurate to the year 2002. Again, the dates will increment by one day every 70 to 72 years, and already several have changed. The corresponding tropical, sidereal, and astronomical (Sun in Constellation) dates are given below:



The Final Outcome

Generally, when I analyze astrological charts I use both sidereal and tropical systems for an overall view of what is occurring. During my research and studies, I have seen a trend that leads me to believe that the tropical system addresses the emotions and potential future of people as well as addresses the purpose of the person’s soul in their current incarnation. Similar conclusions can be made when we look at the seasons of the Earth, which the tropical system is based on. What changes occur to the Earth can and will in many cases affect us as well.

The sidereal system has lead me to believe that it addresses what our core foundation is and what kind of energy and past issues (karma) we have come into this life with. This can be likened to fueling up your car in preparation for a long journey. You can’t have one system without the other. Both tropical and sidereal are needed to determine the potential of the individual body, mind, and soul. Ophiuchus as a 13th zodiac sign just adds a deeper and a more profound dynamic, which I feel should also be included in the overall analysis of a chart.

Ultimately, use discernment in the analysis of your life journey. No person can tell you how your life should and will be. Only you can determine your journey. Use whichever system feels right for you because it all works when intuition is applied. Your focus determines your reality. Focus on your journey and not the destination and you might find yourself realizing that your journey followed the path of your astrological chart…!

Mercury Retrograde (Tropical System) March 30-April 23, 2011

Generally, when I analyze astrological charts I use both sidereal and tropical systems for an overall view of what is occurring. But in the case of a Mercury Retrograde I use the tropical system because in my research and studies a Mercury Retrograde affects the emotions of people as well as addresses the purpose of the person’s soul in their current incarnation. So here’s the latest information on our current Mercury Retrograde.

Mercury rules thinking and perception, processing and disseminating information and all means of communication, commerce, education and transportation. By extension, Mercury rules people who work in these areas, especially those who work with their minds or their wits: writers and orators, consultants, commentators and critics, gossips and spin doctors, salespeople, teachers, travelers, tricksters and thieves. Mercury also has an occult side, so healing, astrology and the transmission of spiritual knowledge are also in his area.

Mercury retrograde gives rise to personal misunderstandings; flawed, disrupted, or delayed communications, negotiations and trade; glitches and breakdowns with phones, computers, cars, buses, and trains. And all of these problems usually arise because some crucial piece of information, or component, has gone astray or awry.

It is not exactly wise to make important decisions while Mercury is retrograde, since it is likely that such decisions will be clouded by misinformation, poor communication and careless thinking. Mercury is all about mental clarity and the power of the mind, so when Mercury is retrograde these intellectual characteristics tend to be less acute than usual, as the critical faculties are dimmed. Make sure you pay attention to the small print!

The key issue here is one of focus. Mercury's retro phase tends to bring unforeseen changes and blockages, but the aggravation and frustration that many of us experience during these periods is often due to our own inability to roll with the punches. This may be due to a common human trait… ego-fixation.

Mercury sets out to restructure our thinking processes and for many of us this is painful and frustrating. Unresolved issues from the past tend to push themselves forward. Moreover, these experiences reveal flaws in our internal organization as well as our external planning, which can make us feel foolish and inadequate. Stay alert and aware of yourself and your surroundings; Mercury retrogrades gives us the chance to find out just what has been missed!

Mercury retrograde, like any cosmic aspect, affects people differently, depending on where it hits their personal charts. Some people actually prosper under Mercury retrograde, especially if Mercury is retrograde but is well-aspected in their birth charts. It is also a time when matters began under a previous retro period will come to fruition. Firm decisions that have been previously made when Mercury was travelling normally through the zodiac may be implemented or finalized while Mercury is retrograde without too much worry.

When Mercury is retrograde, everyone's thinking is more introspective; we tend to think about issues and concerns that relate to the sign involved. With Mercury retrograde beginning in Aries this time around, people with this sign prominent in their charts will be especially prone to such introspection. Aries is a Cardinal Sign, so the other cardinal signs, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn are also likely to experience more than their fair share of disruption, given that we are all under the powerful Cardinal Cross aspect that has been turning the world inside out for some months already.

Just remember, your focus determines your reality. Because of the dynamics involved during this Mercury retrograde now is the best time to go within and make a change for your spiritual growth and the betterment of our world.

Hi Raj. The Universe is so complex that we in human form can not even begin to understand what should or should not occur. Judging life, along with its experiences, from a human perspective can be very tunnel vision in nature. We do not know, or even begin to know, what individual soul contracts say about what the individual is to encounter in their physical life. We can only have faith that what ever occurs it was in concurrence with their soul contract. Keep in mind that the soul chooses what LIFE EXPERIENCES it needs to have to continue its soul growth. How life will manifest those experiences is up to life and not up to the individual. 

Also keep in mind that experiences create energy so life takes this energy and manifests situations according to this energy “signature” and not according to our expectations (judgments). This is the reason why we should not judge Earthly and Universal circumstances based on human judgments because we do not have the entire picture. This is also the reason why I say we need to honor those souls who have passed on and the souls currently going through their soul contract physically because they have chosen to be our teachers for our soul growth by showing us where attention needs to be focused on. Right attention + Right intention + Right focus = Positive outcome.

Here are my thoughts on your comments. Don’t take my thoughts as saying that you are wrong but as a “in addition to” approach. Everyone has a piece of the Universal puzzle. We only need to share with each other to gain the larger perspective of our chosen path. Your thoughts are presented followed by my thoughts in brackets and italicized:

From a spiritual perspective, this is a time for compassion and love. The people who died and those now in distress are part of the whole. [I agree. We are all one so when one person feels pain we all feel pain through our energetic connection. Quantum Physics speaks of this connection in depth.]

We as humanity are in distress. [Humanity, as well as Mother Earth, is in transition. Before change from one paradigm to another can occur a transition must take place. We as humans label, and judge, this transition as chaos, distress, etc. This transition is neither negative nor positive but only a path to reach a destination. Human perspective is the only action that chooses to label the transition negative or positive.]

They did not choose to be in these circumstances. These circumstances did not have to occur - if greed of industry did not keep other forms of energy from coming fruition, if the collective of human emotion calmed, rather than agitated the Earth and we did not ignorantly submit global rule of the many by the few for so long. [These brave souls did choose the circumstances indirectly by choosing their experience(s) before they incarnated into this physical reality. Knowing that experiences equates to energy life takes this energy and creates the physical situations that manifest the physical realities. Also, what these souls chose was the macro view, of which exists a multitude, of a potential reality. This choice creates the energy and determines how their choice will manifest in the physical form. Quantum physics also speaks to an infinite number of potential realities. Once we make a choice then a ‘quantum collapse” occurs, which creates a physical reality based on the choice of the individual soul.]

But now that it has happened we can have compassion and take right action. Spirituality is more than silent prayer. Spirituality is reaching out to comfort and uplift those in need. [I agree in that since this reality was chosen not just by the souls in Japan but by all souls within our Earth and in this Universe. Being “one” does not stop at the Earth. It also includes the Universe. We are all one in body, mind, and Spirit. Spirituality is much more than silent prayer. But it’s also much more than comforting and uplifting people in need. Being spiritual means being “you” the soul and all that makes up the individual soul. Being spiritual means being true to your beliefs, respecting the beliefs of others without judgment, and taking responsibilities for your actions as well as acknowledging the shortcomings.]

Humanity can provide spiritual, emotional and physical support to those in need - in Japan and to our next door neighbors. [I agree. But we must be aware of our intentions when we provide spiritual, emotional and physical support to those in need. When we provide this help from a place of love then everything will occur according to the contracts agreed upon by the affected souls. When we provide help from a place of fear then we may really only be helping others for the sake of not feeling the pain ourselves. This occurs because of the idea that we are all one. Since we are all one then we feel the pain of others. This includes the pain Mother Earth and the Universe feels.]

We must affect a change in our own hearts and spread that light. [This should be done in accordance to the soul contracts of the affected souls and in accordance with the contract agreed upon by all the souls in the Universe. Intuition will tell us when we are in alignment with this contract.]

To those who write off the suffering as "God's will" or "their karma" is to disconnect rather than merge. [I agree. To “write off suffering,” as you stated, allow the individual to not take responsibility for his or her actions. What is occurring in our world, and in the Universe, is because we chose to experience the energy before we incarnated into this physical reality. Many will argue this statement but the question then needs to be asked… “Are you accepting responsibility for your contribution to the state of events currently occurring?”]

We need to feel and demonstrate empathy or we are not yet fit to become the Divine Light Beings of our potential. [To say this statement is to say that it does not already exist within you. This is also coming from a place of lack instead of coming from a place of abundance. We are already Light Beings having a physical experience based on our choices made prior to incarnation. To be divine or not is a judgment based on human expectations. Light beings vibrate, and operate, in accordance to contracts agreed upon by all souls, to include Universal Source, i.e. God, Creator, etc.]

March 9, 2011: Dawn of the Unity Wave

As we move into the Mayan Calendar "9th Wave of Creation," we are being exposed to new and very powerful energies that help in awakening our consciousness. The article below, by Dr. Carl Johan Callemen, gives insight on the events that may occur to many. Please read, enjoy, and pass on to others.

March 9, 2011: Dawn of the Unity Wave

Last year large numbers of people gathered in the Conscious Convergence event on July 17-18, 2010, setting an intention to manifest unity consciousness as the Ninth, and highest, of the Mayan waves brings the universe to its highest state of existence. This event served as a base camp for intention setting and ascension towards Unity consciousness; we celebrated in joy in the most varied forms, ranging from the temples of Bali to the Mayan elders in Guatemala and from the Sami in the North to the Bushmen in the Kalahari. We could for the first time ever see our planet emerging as a sacred space encircled by a global medicine wheel.*

We are now approaching the actual beginning of this wave of unity consciousness, which begins on March 9, 2011. This is the ninth wave also known as the Universal Underworld. This wave includes thirteen uaxaclahunkin (18 day) periods that propel a process designed to lead the universe and the human beings to their highest state of consciousness.** The purpose of this article is to provide some additional background to this wave, its initiation date and suggest how the energy of the wave may be used in the most beneficial way. This requires that I again summarize the basic structure of the cosmic time plan as understood from the Mayan calendar.

Many people have in recent years come to know about the existence of the Mayan calendar and its purported end date, but surprisingly, not so many have assimilated what the ancient inscriptions are saying about it. In fact, there is only one known ancient inscription that mentions the calendar end -- Monument 6 from Tortuguero*** describes what will happen when the calendar comes to an end. The current reading of this ancient inscription by professional Mayanists is that we will then “witness the display of Bolon Yokte Ku in his full costume and regalia.” So whatever else you might have heard associated with the end of the Mayan calendar such as a pole shift, the end of the world, a galactic alignment, solar flares, radiation from the center of the galaxy, etc., actually lacks foundation in any ancient Mayan text.

Yet what obviously does have a background in an ancient Mayan inscription is Bolon, the number nine. At first sight, the reading of the Tortuguero Monument may sound cryptic and difficult to understand. There is however a lot of surrounding information about Bolon Yokte Ku that allows us to make sense of this inscription.*** Crucial to understanding is that Bolon Yokte Ku is the Nine-Support, or Nine-Step, entity of “period endings.” Bolon Yokte Ku, in other words, is a name for a cosmic pyramid in nine steps. Through extensive factual verification this pyramid has been shown to symbolize the nine levels of evolution the universe undergoes on its climb to its highest state of consciousness.

Each level of evolution, of Bolon Yokte Ku, the cosmic pyramid, is then developed through a series of thirteen time periods. These range from the hablatun (1.26 billion years) on the bottom level to the uaxaclahunkin of 18 days at the ninth level. This means a twenty times frequency increase and speed-up of time with every single step to a higher level. Soon, as of October 28, 2011, the energies of the nine waves are then all going to manifest fully. This final manifestation, I believe is what the ancient inscription refers to when it says that it will be witnessed how Bolon Yokte Ku will appear in his full regalia. The fruits of the nine waves will then appear in their fullness as these are simultaneously completed. This is no longer confusing if we accept that the ancient peoples of the world, including the Maya, would tend to personalize the cosmic forces describing them as “gods”, while, in the modern world, we would probably only describe this as nine energy waves.

As of March 9, 2011, the ninth and highest wave of the Bolon Yokte Ku will be activated. It seems to me that the purpose of this particular wave of 13 x 18 = 234 days is to cap the entire evolution of the universe that so far has been propelled by the eighth lower waves. From what we know about the changing polarities of consciousness of the nine waves it will do so by providing energies that are conducive to the human beings co-creating unity consciousness.

This is the purpose of the Ninth wave. So let us stop for a moment to contemplate the momentous place in time in which we find ourselves. Life, and especially human life, has evolved to the eighth level. Those that have actually climbed a physical Mayan pyramid, such as the pyramid of the Great Jaguar in Tikal, may be able to relate to the feeling of coming close to the top at the eighth level catching breath for the ascent to the top. We are now then about to start the climb to the ninth and highest level of life. It was to prepare for this momentous opportunity that many participated in the intention setting event of the Conscious Convergence last July. We now can follow the intentions we set at this event and actually manifest through co-creating Unity Consciousness. It is now time for us to follow up, and actually manifest the Unity Consciousness that was the intention of this event. The meaning of the unity wave that is now about to begin is for us to co-create the appearance of Bolon Yokte Ku in its full splendor, the completion of the cosmic plan and its nine levels of evolution. As March 9, 2011 arrives, we are called to begin co-creating Unity Consciousness; March 9, 2011 is the dawn of the wave of unity.

Thus, the year of 2011 is not scheduled to be just like another year. Very likely this is our last chance to live up to being co-creators with the cosmic plan. As this Gregorian year began, the messages that circulated reflected our heightened ambivalence to the passage of time. On the one hand there were the every year kind of messages like: “Hope you will have a great 2011” or “what do you want to create for yourself in 2011?” as if this would just be like another year. Messages centered on the individual, based on a linear view of time made up from years following one after the other.

On the other hand, around the New Year reports started to come about the “aflockalypse.” Large numbers of fish, birds and animals simply died for no apparent reason. This instead pointed to anything but a linear continuation of time in 2011. The aflockalypse is possibly due to the frequency increase that the nine levels of the Mayan pyramid undergoes combined with the extreme degree to which humans have now pushed the ecology of the planet off balance. If this is true, it would call upon us to adapt to this new frequency and also shift completely from asking for things for ourselves and what we as egos or individuals may want from 2011 to what our egos may do to serve the delivery of the divine plan. The ninth wave of unity would then be calling for a complete shift in our way of being, to manifesting unity consciousness, which is the intended end result of the cosmic plan. If this is to happen, it may also call for extraordinary cosmic energies to fulfill the cosmic plan. In fact, maybe the ninth wave will be a Judgment Day that will save the world.

If there is a twenty-fold increase in frequency with every wave, the Ninth Wave, or Universal Underworld, will have a duration of 13 x 18 = 234 days and would then start March 9, 2011. It will progress through seven days and six intermediate nights, each being a uaxaclahunkin. In Mayan calendar language, this means an 18-day period. The 18-day periods can be subdivided into two nine-day counts (two days off from the classical nine lords of the night count) since they will have both an ascending and a descending phase and in this way we may see more clearly the link to classical Mayan calendrics. If the ninth wave is all about creating harmony from what has evolved previously then our task would be to ask the divine for guidance as to what we would do to arrive at this. If we are asking for global harmony we cannot however simply ask for our egos to guide us. Instead we will from the outset have to ask questions like: “What can I do to serve the cosmic plan?” or “What shall I do to further the manifestation of unity consciousness?” If the days of the ninth wave are the time periods most conducive to generating such unity consciousness then we will have to turn for spiritual guidance from the divine in phase exactly with these days of the Universal Underworld.

The ninth wave here joins the alpha to the omega in that for the first time in history it brings the nine-day count to the forefront of evolution. These will be extraordinary times and it is possible that we here will be confronted with a choice of truth versus tradition. The reason is that if the ninth wave will have the strength that we may expect from the evolution of a new underworld then it will be energetically more powerful and stronger than the traditional tzolkin count of 13 x 20 days. The Ninth level will, in other words, bring in a nine-day count that transcends the tzolkin in power and is more meaningful to follow for those seeking to align themselves with the cosmic plan. Still, of course, the tzolkin will continue to live on as an undercurrent of energies.

The rhythm of the Universal Underworld is then a nine-day climb of increasing intensity starting on March 9, 2011 followed by a descending intensity for the next eighteen (9+9) days until a new descent begins of eighteen (9+9) days. We will then have to learn to ride this wave in order to ultimately climb to the top of the pyramid to be able to witness the appearance of Bolon Yokte Ku in “his” full regalia. We are calling for everyone to be part of the initiation of this new wave on March 9, 2011. Each of you is welcome to make use of the web site www.treeoflifecelebration.com for communicating with others who share the same intentions. I feel it should be clear that it is something fundamentally new that is proposed here. A frequency of evolution, the nine-day count, which previously has only been vaguely discernible, will come to be the chief guiding rhythm. And if you think about it, it would be truly remarkable if the transformation to a new world could be the result of a mere linear continuation of calendars that have been used for centuries.

The call for events or celebrations to initiate the ninth wave on March 9, 2011 only means to point out that this is the beginning date, the initiation of our opportunity to move into unity together. We would also like to encourage you to find means of celebrating and transforming into unity consciousness during times that work for you, such as weekends around the first eighteen day period, as well as holding the intention for the beginning of true unity on March 9, 2011. In fact, the idea is that this process of transformation generating the unity consciousness of the ninth wave should not end. It will continue to October 28, 2011 and beyond.**** There is no single right answer to how this transformation to unity consciousness is to be brought about everywhere. Yet, there are tools available that can be used and further developed by all those who share the common intention of manifesting unity consciousness. Everything starts with an intention and if the intention is aligned with the purpose of the cosmic plan, it will be increasingly bearing fruit.

On March 9, 2011 we will remember the intention of unity consciousness we collectively set at the conscious convergence of July 17-18, 2010 joined by many who are now setting it for the first time. This time it will be our task to actually deliver the unity consciousness by applying our collective creativity to a new arena. Be there, wherever you are in the cosmos, for this final countdown.

** The word “consciousness” has become one of the most popular buzzwords of our time and yet there is little agreement as to what it means. My own view is that consciousness is fundamentally a relationship to the Tree of Life and so when the Tree of Life alters its polarities the filter of consciousness changes. Thus shifts in consciousness brought about by polarity shifts in the tree of life are what drive human history and all of evolution forward. Every Underworld, or wave, thus brings a consciousness dominated by a particular polarity and so as we climb the cosmic pyramid consciousness will evolve to higher and higher forms of manifestation. Many who use the word consciousness are not aware of this crucial link between the Mayan calendar and the evolution of consciousness and hence tend to give the word a different, sometimes entirely different, connotation. Many people who use the word consciousness in fact give this the specific meaning of unity consciousness, which in reality is just one of its many possible expressions.
